From Concept to Creation

ZARVAN began as an exploration of one of the oldest and most profound concepts in Persian cosmology: infinite time. Inspired by the ancient Persian figure Zarvan, the project sought to transform an abstract philosophical idea into a living public experience. Rather than creating a static monument, the goal was to build a sculpture that could actively engage people through light, sound, communication, and participation.

The journey from concept to creation required the integration of artistic vision, structural engineering, interactive technology, and cultural storytelling. One of the project’s greatest challenges was designing a large-scale outdoor installation capable of operating autonomously in demanding environments while maintaining meaningful human interaction. This involved developing custom lighting systems, acoustic communication tubes, optical periscopes, solar-powered infrastructure, and a durable structural framework.

As the project evolved, collaboration with engineers, fabricators, and creative contributors helped transform the concept into a fully realized public artwork. Recognition through Burning Man’s Honoraria Program further validated the project’s artistic and cultural significance.

Today, ZARVAN stands as both a sculpture and a platform for experience. It invites visitors to communicate, shift perspectives, and reflect on time as something lived rather than measured. The project hopes to inspire connection, curiosity, and a renewed appreciation for the intersection of heritage, technology, and human experience.
