Alexander Milov is a Ukrainian sculptor, conceptual artist, and film director from Odessa, Ukraine. He gained international recognition with his iconic sculpture LOVE, the first large-scale Ukrainian art installation presented at the Burning Man festival. Milov is known for creating monumental public artworks that combine ambitious engineering with powerful storytelling and striking symbolism, exploring themes of identity and human connection.
Creative Highlights
- LOVE (2015): Milov’s breakthrough installation at Burning Man depicts two wire-frame adults turned away from each other while their illuminated inner children reach out to connect. The sculpture gained international recognition, resonating with audiences worldwide and becoming a frequently used visual reference among psychologists and therapists when discussing the concept of the inner child.
- Darth Vader Monument (2015): Milov transformed a Lenin statue in Odesa that was slated for demolition into the world’s first Darth Vader monument, preserving it as a public artwork while making a provocative statement about identity, history, and politics in Ukraine.
- Listen to the World (2019): A heart-shaped planet wearing headphones, created for the Vivid Festival in Sydney, Australia.
- Moon Volleyball (2021): An interactive openwork metal sculpture in Kyiv depicting an archetypal “mother goddess” joyfully playing with a large, glowing moon.
